{Note from Jessica: Today’s post is shared by my sweet friend Renee, author of Raising Generation Nourished. We became friends several years ago and I am continually impressed with her desire to help change the world, starting with our newest generation. Real food has to be core of our health and should start in the womb. Considering this is the first time in history that our children are expected to die before us, something HAS to change. I’m honored to call her a friend. I hope you’ll stop by her site, Raising Generation Nourished, and say hello!}
Summer! We finally made it!
Boy that school bell rang the final time and I had our flip flops in hand and we hit the beach down the road! We are ready!
It is really nice to have a few quick protein-packed snacks that will hold my busy bee girls over until lunch when we make it a park or beach day. Even a morning out weeding or tending the garden can leave them asking for something to eat well before lunchtime!
I keep my freezer well stocked with granola, energy bars, and handfuls of crispy nuts, but sometimes it is fun to have something different. And gummies are super popular with my kids and their friends because they are so good!
I keep these antioxidant-rich berry gummies stashed away all year for handfuls here and there, but with summer comes lots of produce to choose from!
I can’t even begin to tell you how wonderful it is to see the variety of produce back on the shelves at our grocer and farmer’s markets opening back up! We love melon so this gummy flavor is a favorite of ours to enjoy at the beach on these beautiful summer days!
Important Note On Gelatin Types
When it comes to gelatin, you don’t want any old gelatin off the supermarket shelves. You want to look for 100% grass-fed gelatin from healthy animals. Just like other animal products, quality is important.
That is why I recommend Vital Proteins Grass-Fed Gelatin products and Perfect Supplements products exclusively. I have compared these brand with other brands on the market and the quality far surpasses anything else I’ve tried. I am thrilled to be one of their affiliate partners and support such great products and companies.
Perfect Supplements offers a grass-fed hydrolyzed collagen (cold-soluble) right now and has a gelatin (hot-soluble) in the works for 2016. Read my review of their product here or watch the video below. You can order their own products via their own site here or on Amazon here.

Melon Gummies :: Gluten-Free, Grain-Free, Dairy-Free, Refined Sugar-Free
Melon lovers unite! This special twist on a basic fruit gummy will leave your tastebuds singing. This flavor is a favorite of ours to enjoy at the beach on these beautiful summer days!
Ingredients
- 3 cups ripe melon, cubed
- 1/4 cup water
- 3-4 TB raw honey
- 1/4 cup grass-fed gelatin
Instructions
- Put the cantaloupe and water in a small sauce pan and bring to a simmer. Stir for a few minutes while everything warms.
- Turn off the heat and add the raw honey. Stir to combine/melt.
- Put the warmed melon mixture in a food processor or blender, add the gelatin, and blend completely.
- Pour into your silicone molds (this amount fills about 48 slots in my molds) and refrigerate. I like to stick them in the freezer to make this part go faster – only takes about 15 minutes or so! The firmer, almost frozen gummies pop out of the molds nicer/easier too!
- After the mixture gels up, you can pop out the gummies – I just push the silicone mold “inside-out” – works great!
- Store your gummies in the fridge. They keep fine in the lunchbox without an ice pack though!

We are big gummy fans here! We just finished a set with tart cherries and honey. The kids gobbled them up, even the baby!
OOoooh, I love tart cherries in gummies! Such a great flavor! 🙂
You could do this with watermelon as well.
Yes! That would be delicious!!!
Question – why heat the melon? Couldn’t you just puree the melon in a blender or Vitamix? Or maybe juice the cantaloupe?
That way you still have the nutrients..
Hi Gail – You have to heat the melon in order to get the gelatin to dissolve. There’s no other liquid in this recipe other than the melon and its juice and the gelatin has to dissolve completely in order to work properly. Hope that helps! 🙂
i just tried this recipe but not sure i did it correctly. was the gelatin supposed to go in the blender in powder form? as in, 1/4 cup dry, powdered gelatin? or did i need to mix the powder with warm water first to create 1/4 liquid gelatin? (which is what i ended up doing) i guess what threw me off is the word “warm” in “warm soluble grass-fed gelatin”. they’re in the freezer now, let;s see how it goes!
Hi Susie – You sprinkle the gelatin into the food processor or blender that has the warmed melon liquid in it. Hope they turned out well! 🙂
lolz had to google the meaning of cantaloupe
LOL Craig!! 🙂
hi can I use gelatin sheets and if so how many?
Hi Craig! I’ve never used the sheets before, so I had to hop on Google and found this: http://cooking.stackexchange.com/questions/43794/how-much-powdered-gelatin-to-one-gelatin-leaf. Hopefully that helps! Hope you enjoy the recipe! 🙂
Just made this with mango. Turned out perfect! I added only 2tbl of honey but next time will skip it all together. Hubby, 3 year old and 1.5 year old loved them! Thx for recipe 🙂 I will try watermelon next time.
Awesome Vika! So glad you guys liked it! Mango sounds great!
Love this post and will be trying it soon! Can you attach a link to the kind of silicone mold you use? Thanks!
Hi Katie! Hope you enjoy! You can use any type of silicone mold you like. This is similar to the ones we have: http://amzn.to/2kOeR3o. Let me know how you like them! 🙂
These look great. Do you have a link of which mold you used? Thanks!
HI Julie! Thanks for stopping by! I am so sorry for the delay in responding. I’m really far behind on comments! This is the one I use for this recipe: https://amzn.to/2IcmBFK. Have a great day!!
How long can you leave this in the fridge or freezer? Do you have to eat them right away or can you leave them in there for weeks?
Hi Tania! Thanks for stopping by. I don’t recommend freezing them as they do not hold up. They’ll turn to a liquidy mush when thawed. They will store in the fridge for about a week. Enjoy!
hello …can I use pineapple 🍍 instead of melon? Using the same method?
Hi Manuela – Thanks for stopping by. I have never tried it, but I think it would work. If you give it a shot, let me know how they turn out! 🙂
