Let’s get grateful in November. The holiday season is such a blessing, but many people – myself included – can easily get overwhelmed with the busyness, Black Friday, and more. Instead, transitioning to gratitude can help you enjoy this time of year much much more. For me, this is my favorite time to enjoy delicious food with family and friends and to celebrate the end of another year.

For me, I practice being grateful daily and sure notice the difference in my mental, emotional, and physical health. When I’m writing down and sharing gratitude, even for the simple or difficult things, my mind and body are in a more peaceful state. I find myself smiling, laughing, and enjoying life so much more. This allows me to show up as my best self for clients, family, and friends, and I’m able to do my best work.

Of course there are days where I feel down and blah, and that’s why gratitude is a practice. When I show gratitude for tough situations, I’m able to grow from that experience, and the benefits of being grateful grow.

Gratitude itself is more than enough, but luckily for you, there are many health benefits to the practice of gratitude!

As one of my favorite authors Brene Brown says,

“I don’t have to chase extraordinary moments to find happiness – it’s right in front of me if I’m paying attention and practicing gratitude.”

So, what are the benefits of practicing gratitude?

Here’s a list of only a few of the many benefits of gratitude.

3 Simple Ways to Practice Gratitude

Now that you’re on-board with gratitude, let me share the simple ways you can start to add gratitude into your life.

1. Start a gratitude journal or list before bed.

This is my favorite way, and it’s a part of my daily planner. All I do is write down a list of 3+ things I’m grateful for that day. Even on tough days, I can always find a ton of things I’m grateful for. There’s no “right” way to go about this – you can choose to be grateful for ANYTHING. When I do this before bed, I fall asleep with a smile on my face rather than worrying or obsessing about my to-do lists.

2. Feel the gratitude.

As you’re writing, notice what you feel in your body. Personally, I feel the gratefulness in my heart region of my body. If you’re just starting out, you may not believe that you have things to be grateful for, but give it a fair chance.

3. Share the gratitude!

Tell someone how grateful you feel to have them in your life. Write thank-you notes to your friends. Surprise someone. Eat mindfully + be grateful for the food you have to eat. Instead of focusing on all the negatives in the world, choose to see the world in a new way with a perspective of gratitude.

 Use this holiday season to cultivate gratitude, and let it build momentum in your life for the New Year in a few months.
