Food safety is a big issue here in the United States. There are constant recalls on food products and these products cause at least 48 million sicknesses every year. Thankfully, we have some strong voices within the food safety and food production movement who are the side of the people, not the government.

One of the easiest ways to protect yourself from this risk is to eat real food, buy local and in season, and buy from people you trust. Get your grass-fed beef and pastured meat from ranchers you have met and talked to. Get your eggs and dairy at a local farmers market or from people who you know. If you’re up for it, look into raw milk. Avoid buying mainstream, commercial food if at all possible.

This chart is really interesting and has some great info that every home cook needs to know!
