Making the switch from the standard American diet (SAD) to whole foods is one of the best things you can do for your health. While I admit that this is my favorite thing I have done for my family, it isn’t always an easy step.
One of the things that I missed the most while making the transition was going out to eat. I love being able to get a meal that I didn’t have to make or clean the dishes afterwards. (I’m not the only one, right?)
After awhile though, when we started going out to eat, I would start to have stomach aches and pains. My body couldn’t handle the ingredients that were used.
Let’s face it, most of the time when we go out, our food is loaded with unhealthy oils, MSG, and sugars. It makes for a rough night when your digestive system isn’t used to it anymore.
Chinese restaurants always seem to be worse in this area due to the large amounts of MSG. I would spend the night not only with an upset stomach or heartburn, I usually would be so thirsty I was getting up all night for a drink of water. Not.fun.at.all.
I decided that had to be a better way….and there totally is!
It turns out that a lot of Asian inspired dishes are really way to make at home.
I enjoyed spending time in the kitchen playing around with recipes, like this Asian chicken and vegetables. It was so easy and my kids were in love.
Next, I decided to try lo mein as that has always been a favorite of mine. Not only was it easy, it has now turned into a staple meal at our house. It is nutrient dense with all the fresh veggies and a good amount of bone broth.
I thought I might have to give up one of my favorite dishes though, thinking I could never make it at home but this recipe for General Tso’s chicken is AMAZING! It isn’t even complicated.
While it does take some extra effort, you do not have to miss out on your favorite dishes. Since you are making it at home, you can even adjust the recipes to me more to your liking!
And to get you started, here is a collection of more than 30 healthy Chinese take-out recipes you can make at home!
