Welcome to the second installment of my four part Summer Skin Care Series!

For this part of the series, we are featuring a few products from MadeOn Hard Lotion Skin Care Products. I first came across their products through another blogger’s website. I was so intrigued, because I had never heard of hard lotion before! Lotion, to me, was supposed to be soft and liquidy, so how on earth would hard lotion work?

MadeOn Hard Lotion Skin Care Products

MadeOn Skin Hard Lotion Care Products was founded by Renee Harris. She lives in Northern California and loves making products that help heal her customers’ skin. In addition to her classic hard lotion bars, she also makes hair butter, rash cream, lip balm, and even a D.Y.I. kit, where you can experiment with making your own!

Some of you are probably wondering “What is hard lotion?

Well, hard lotion is a lotion that stays solid at room temperature. The blend of ingredients are especially designed for rough, cracked skin, and very dry skin problems. The hard lotion bars consist of a base of three simple, non-toxic ingredients:

  • Shea butter
  • Coconut Oil
  • Beeswax

The beeswax leaves a protective, non-greasy coating on the skin and helps seal in the nourishing coconut oil and shea butter, giving the skin a chance to absorb and heal. These hard lotion bars can be used by anyone, but they have been specially formulated for those who suffer from extra dry, rough, and cracked skin conditions.

Watch this video from Renee, where she explains what her hard lotion bars are and why her products work so well.

Hard Lotion Product Review

I had the pleasure of reviewing three of Renee’s products. I was really excited to try the Bee Silk, especially, because I personally suffer from really dry, cracked feet and I know this product was made specifically for issues like that. During the summer, I go barefoot all the time at home and when I go out, it’s in flip-flops. Yes, I know flip-flops are horrific for your back — my chiropractor tells me that all the time — but I just HATE having my feet confined. Well, the price I pay is really icky feet, if I don’t spend extra time on them.

When I don’t take care of my feet, I get these really deep cracks on my heels. The cracks are so deep that they bleed and make walking quite painful. In addition to the cracks, I just have really dry, flaky skin on my feet, which, the more I read, the more I think is a magnesium deficiency. More on that in a different post. I have dealt with these issues for a long time.

When I received the samples from Renee, I decided I was going to get serious about my foot care. So, I developed a little evening routine.

  1. I bought a PedEgg. If you don’t know what those are, they are awesome! One of the few “As Seen on TV” products that actually works!
  2. Each night before bed, I use the PedEgg on my feet, especially on my heels.
  3. I rub a thick layer of the Bee Silk lotion bar on my heels and feet.
  4. I cover my feet with socks and head to bed.

After a week or so of constant attention, my heels started looking so much better. They’re not gorgeous (yet), but the best thing is that I have not had a crack in my heels in about a month and a half. This makes me extremely happy, because many days, I would have to hobble around, or walk on my toes, because the pain from the crack would be so bad.

I am sold on the lotion bars and am determined to keep up on my nightly routine. It only takes about 5 minutes and now that it is a habit, it’s not that big of a deal.

Now, let’s take a look at the products I sampled.

The Bee Silk. The classic, most popular hard lotion bar. Simple ingredients, fantastic skin soothing abilities! Three nourishing ingredients to help soothe the toughest of skin conditions. It’s unscented, with just a faint, pleasant scent of shea butter and coconut oil.

The Au Chocolate. A hard lotion bar that literally smells good enough to eat. You know, they say you should never put anything on your skin that you wouldn’t put in your mouth. The delectable scent of this lotion bar is mighty tempting! It’s like dessert for your skin! This bar is made up of Renee’s base ingredients, plus the addition of cocoa butter for a chocolaty treat!

The Bug Block. I love the smell of citronella. Some people think I’m weird. This bar contains the base ingredients, plus essential oils of citronella, cedarwood, and lavender. I personally liked the smell so much that I would use it even if I wasn’t going outside. However, like I said. I’m weird!
