Can I ask you a question? And keep in mind, this may be one of the most important questions anyone could ever ask you (or that you could ask yourself):

Why are you waiting?

Why are you waiting to step into the life that you’ve been dreaming about?

Why are you waiting to take a chance on following your dreams?

Why are you waiting to get a plan together so you can get out of that job you hate?

Why are you waiting to take a risk on that relationship that you’ve been thinking about?

Why are you waiting to make self-care a priority

Why, why, why?

I know why.

You’re scared. You feel overwhelmed. You’re paralyzed from over-analyzing everything. You are terrified of making the wrong decision. You’re fearful that “things won’t work out”.

I see you there.

I see you staring out the window, dreaming of a better life. Dreaming of changes that would make all the difference for you.

You’ve got goals, you’ve got dreams, you’ve got plans. You’ve got ideas scribbled in your journal. You’ve got vision board after vision board after vision board stacked away in your bedroom.

But what you don’t feel like you have is the courage to move forward. You may wake up one morning and say, “OK, this is it! I’m gonna DO IT!

And then a few minutes later while you’re brushing your teeth, your ego wakes up and starts rambling off all the reasons why you would absolutely fail, not be good enough, go bankrupt, lose your family, lose your friends…

Blah, blah, blah.

Shut up ego!

Silencing the Ego

Your ego is there for a good reason. It keeps you safe. It keeps you protected. It keeps you from doing things that you might regret.

But along with all of that, your ego also keeps you stuck.

And you know how I feel about “the stuckness”.

When you are smack dab in the middle of “the stuckness” you are literally standing in a pile of sticky goo that is keeping you, your goals, and your dreams at a standstill.

The days go by, followed by weeks, and then months, and then years, and then <gasp>, decades.

Yes, decades of your life can fly by before you even realize it.

And you look back with sadness and grief for all the things you didn’t do. All the risks you didn’t take. All the possibility that you were too stuck to grab.

Let me ask you another question?

What would happen if you took a chance and allowed yourself to get unstuck?

What would happen if you woke up one morning and said “OK, this is it! I’m gonna DO IT!” and when your ego showed up a few minutes later you acknowledged him (or her), but didn’t let him (or her) stop you. (acknowledging the ego is important…caving into it is not…)

Sit with that for a minute.

Sit with that feeling that would wash over you as you took that one tiny baby step towards your dreams.

Rome wasn’t built in a day and your dreams won’t be either.

But inaction leads to death. Action leads to change.

In the words of one of my favorite mentors, Alyssa Nobriga, “It works, if you work it.”

So today, I want you to work it. I want you to take one step forward towards whatever it is that your heart is desiring. You can go as fast or as slow as you want.

But just go.

Promise me that you will not allow “the stuckness” to suck the life out of you. Because you have things to offer the world. And it’s a disservice to everyone if you don’t share your gifts.

I’m rooting for you. I’m here, in your corner, on your side.

You got this.
