Chocolate peanut butter is a much loved classic flavor combo. Did you know that it can be nutritious too?!

This chocolate peanut butter protein shake packs a whopping 29 grams of protein! It tastes amazing too! You won’t find any chalky store-bought protein powders in this shake either. Just healthy, nourishing ingredients that support your body.

We can use this new year as a reminder to be mindful of the choices we make in regards to food. It’s a wonderful thing to be aware of what you’re putting into your body. But that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on your favorite flavors!

Chocolate is one of my favorite things. I absolutely LOVE it! That being said, I can’t have sugar because my body reacts to it, and most chocolate these days have some form of organic cane sugar in it. Hopefully, we all know that sugar isn’t good for us anyway.

Life is too short not to enjoy the things we love. That means coming up with solutions that satisfy our cravings without taking a toll on our body.

My solution for enjoying some healthy chocolate is almost always homemade smoothies and shakes because I can control the ingredients. And by almost, I mean I have my fair share of hot chocolate and chai hot chocolate too, but usually my go-to is a good ole chocolate shake.

Chocolate and peanut butter are a match made in heaven!

Peanut butter doesn’t work for everyone, though. That’s the beauty of this shake, you can use quality, organic peanut butter if it’s part of your diet OR you can use cashew, macadamia or sunflower seed butter. All of these nut or seed butters taste amazing in this shake and don’t drastically alter the flavor of the chocolate “peanut butter” combo.

This chocolate peanut butter protein shake is nutrient-dense, contains no refined sugar, and is packed with healthy fats and protein. You can’t get much better than that!

The chocolate peanut butter flavor is what makes this shake taste amazing, but the superfood ingredient is what makes this smoothie so healthy!

I love adding grass-fed collagen to shakes and smoothies for an extra protein boost. Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body and plays a key role in numerous bodily functions. It is known for helping support digestion and gut health, helps support bone and joint health, helps build and restore muscle, helps support metabolism and so much more (source).

Healthy Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Shake :: Dairy-Free Option

Yield: 2
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes

This Healthy Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Shake is the most delicious on-the-go snack, breakfast, or replenishing post-workout meal. It's packed with gut supporting, nourishing, protein-rich collagen, and tastes like everyone's favorite chocolate peanut butter cup.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a high powdered blender, in the order listed, ending with the collagen.
  2. Blend until the shake is thick and fully combined.
  3. Pour shake into glasses and enjoy!

Notes

  • Dairy-Free Version: Use coconut milk instead of dairy milk.
  • Make Ice Cubes in Advance: Freeze 1 cup milk of choice and 1 cup filtered water the night before you want to make this shake. This really helps improve the thickness of this shake. The texture falls between a thin smoothie texture and a milkshake texture. If you choose not to do this, the shake will still taste great, but it will be VERY thin and more like a regular drink, not thick like a shake.
  • If you like a thinner shake, use 1 cup milk of choice instead of 1/2 cup.
  • If using honey, use a lighter color honey, like clover, star thistle, or orange blossom (wildflower varieties tend to be too strong and overpowering in flavor).
