NEW DIY Herbal Coffee Blending Guide // deliciousobsessions.com

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Over the last few months, I have received many questions about my herbal coffees. I wanted to take a few minutes today to address those FAQs.
If you have any questions about my products that are not answered here, please don’t hesitate to let me know! I am always happy to help! You can email me here.
Herbal Coffee FAQs
Do your herbal “coffees” taste like coffee?
It really depends on the person, as taste is always subjective. Some say they think it tastes just like their normal cup of coffee, while others do not.
The chicory and carob are what helps give these herbal blends the rich, coffee-like flavor. Regardless, they still taste delicious and are much healthier than regular coffee. The Clean Living blend will give you the closest taste to real coffee. I personally think that a hot cup of the Clean Living blend with a tiny bit of sweetener and a splash of cream tastes almost identical to a cup of coffee.
What are your herbal coffees made of? Do they contain gluten or grains?
No! My products contain no gluten and no grains. I actually developed these specifically because I could not find a blend that tasted right AND contained no gluten or grains.
These herbal blends are made from certified organic root herbs, lots of love, and nothing else. You can find the full ingredient lists here.
What are the benefits of your herbal coffee blends?
I am forbidden by the FDA to make any claims for my products, but I can tell you that these blends are made from certified organic root herbs (that have long been used for digestive support). They contain NO caffeine, NO acid, NO grains, NO gluten, NO added sugar, NO preservatives, and NO artificial colors, flavors, etc.
What is the difference between your Clean Living and Happy Liver Blends?
Both blends use a base of chicory, dandelion, and carob. But, the Happy Liver blend has an addition of two liver and digestion supporting herbs, burdock root and milk thistle seed. The taste of the Happy Liver blend is going to be a little milder than the Clean Living blend.
How do I strain off the herbs in the “coffee”?
Great question! Since these coffees use a blend of ground and whole roots, you will need a super fine mesh strainer in order to strain off the grounds. I personally recommend getting a re-usable coffee filter. They can be picked up at the grocery store or online for just a couple bucks and will last indefinitely.
You can also see my recommendations for straining options in this informative post.
Are your herbal tea and “coffee” blends certified organic?
The coffee blends themselves do not currently have the Certified Organic seal (but we will be getting that in the very near future). That said,  all of the herbs that I use are certified organic and nothing else is added to these blends besides those organic herbs.
All of my herbal blends are handcrafted in small batches using the freshest ingredients to ensure a great tasting product.
Where do you source your herbs? Are they fair-trade and sustainable?
YES! This is something that I am keenly focused on and I only source organic herbs from sustainable sources to ensure the highest quality and purity. My sources for herbs are also very conscious of farming and harvesting practices, as well as the well-being of anyone who is harvesting herbs for them.
All of my herbal blends are handcrafted in small batches using the freshest ingredients to ensure a great tasting product.
Are your herbal tea and “coffee” blends safe for pregnant or nursing women?
All of the herbs used in my herbal blends are generally regarded as safe (GRAS). That said, every individual is different, so it is best to consult qualified health practitioner before using any herbal products that you are unsure about.
The statements on this site have NOT been evaluated by the FDA and are not intended to treat, cure, prevent or diagnose any disease or replace the advice of a qualified health practitioner.
How long do these herbal “coffees” last?
These herbal coffee blends will last 3-4 months in a cool, dark place. Refrigeration is not required if you store it in an airtight container away from direct light and plan on going through it within a couple months. Since both blends do use fresh ground milk thistle seeds, you could store in the fridge or freezer to prolong freshness.
Can you steep your herbal coffee blend in milk rather than water?
You can, but water works better. The herbs need to be brewed in very hot water (simmering, ideally) for a minimum of 10 minutes. Longer is better for flavor and nutritive benefits. If you steep it in milk, you will need to do it over a longer period of time on low, low heat and the flavor will not be as rich.
Can this coffee be made in a regular coffee maker or a pod maker?
No, since this blend is made with roots, it is NOT AN INSTANT PRODUCT. It cannot be brewed in a regular coffee maker or pod coffee maker. It also cannot be cold-brewed.
This coffee blend is made with root herbs and must be brewed (also called “decocted” in herbal language) in hot water for at least 10 minutes (but 20-30 is better). Unlike leaf herbs, root herbs need a lot of heat and time in order to extract all of the flavor and beneficial constituents.
The longer you brew it, the better it will be in flavor and nutrition. You can adjust the proportions to suit your tastes.
How do I brew your herbal coffee?
Great question! I answer that in my recent post here.
