It’s Black Friday. Personally, I’ve never been one to participate in the Black Friday madness. Honestly  I was just thinking the other day that I rarely go shopping, other than grocery shopping. Pretty much everything I buy, I buy online. I really don’t like battling crowds, so the thought of going to a mall or department store, even when it’s not Black Friday, gives me the heebie jeebies. In addition to Black Friday deals, there is always Small Business Saturday, where you can help support your favorite small businesses by buying from them, as well as Cyber Monday, where many online retailers offer extra special discounts! With all that, there really is no reason to battle the crowds.

On a side note, I am not a big one for consumerism. I don’t advocate spending insane amounts of money on gifts, racking up credit card debt, and getting stressed out, just because it’s the “holiday season”. Anytime I need to purchase something, regardless of the time of year, I like to buy from small businesses. I like to support the “little guy”. Makes me feel better about my purchases and makes me happy to know exactly where my dollar is going!

Well, lucky for us, there are some GREAT small businesses online and there are also some great sales taking place, so we don’t need to go outside at all. So, stay cozy in your PJ’s, grab that cup of tea or coffee, and let’s get the Black Friday deals started! Please note that I am listing coupon codes where I can. Some companies did not provide me with coupon codes, but may have special Black Friday deals available on their website. I am just listing some of my favorite companies and small businesses below who I wholeheartedly support. I do not recommend companies to my readers unless I have personally tried their products and loved them.

Lisa’s Counter Culture Book
(fantastic fermenting resource – available in print or eBook format)

Lisa's Counter Culture Lactofermenting Book from www.lisascounterculture.com

This is my favorite fermenting cookbook. Lisa is an expert in anaerobic ferments and she is an amazing wealth of knowledge. Her new cookbook shows us just how easy it is to get started with anaerobic fermenting, once we know the basics. She explains it all very concisely and in an easy-to-understand way. If you or someone you know is fermenting or interested in getting started, this is a great resource. She also includes a bunch of non-fermented recipes, so there is something for every meal of the day! Learn more about the book and order your copy here.

How fun would it be to give the gift of fermentation? If you know someone who is wanting to get started brewing their own kombucha, I can’t recommend KombuchaKamp enough. Big Berkey Water Filters

These are some of the best water filters on the market. I got the opportunity to review their Big Berkey system this summer and it was amazing. As a matter of fact, I still use it and love it. I don’t know how I managed to lug those jugs of RO water from the health food store all those years, when there was a simple and compact system that I could use at home. You can read my review here. You can visit the Big Berkey website here.
