Today, I am thrilled to welcome THE Urban Organic Gardener, Mike Lieberman, to my blog. Mike was one of the first people I met when I started out on my blogging journey and I have enjoyed getting to know him over the years. I love his website and have learned a lot of things to help me with my little urban organic garden. I have a pretty limited space, not to mention that my backyard is on the North side of the house and our town home building blocks pretty much all of the sunlight into the backyard, except on those select high summer days. Mike’s insight has helped me achieve better results with the limited resources I have. Please join me in welcoming Mike as he shows us the basics of getting an urban garden started.

The Basics of Getting Your Urban Garden Started
by Mike Lieberman

Want to start an urban garden, but don’t think you have the space? The lack of space, money, and experience are the three biggest reasons why people don’t even get started. Don’t worry. I assure you that you don’t need any of those in order to successfully start your own garden.

Why not? Because I didn’t have any of those things when I created my fire escape garden in NYC back in 2009.

What you are going to read today are insights from my own personal experiences and things that have been used, with success, by those that I’ve shared these tips with. If you’ve read other gardening sites and publications and were confused by the language and terminology, don’t worry. None of that lingo is used. You will be given simple to read and follow instructions. I’m about giving practical advice. Not showing off my vocabulary.
