Coconut oil is a staple in my kitchen. I use it for everything from cooking and baking to skin care and as a nutritional supplement. I’m sure you’ve heard about coconut oil, though you may or may not know that it really is good for you. Throughout history, coconut oil has been used as a central part of many traditional diets. The highest rates of use are in the tropical regions where coconuts are plentiful. In the mid-1950’s, however, things changed. Coconut oil was blamed for increased heart disease and it was immediately scorned in the public’s eye. Warnings were released about the dangers of coconut and palm oils and the public was encouraged to avoid it and choose “healthier” vegetable-based fats.
Science has come full circle in the last 50 years and now coconut oil is reappearing as a food that can, and should, be added to the diet. Mainstream science is not completely on board yet, and you won’t hear many doctors prescribing coconut oil for what ails you, but it is gradually becoming more popular and accepted. And, those of us who have been using coconut oil for years are starting to come out of the woodwork in support of this fantastic fat because we no longer have the fear of being shamed!
In my post, “Coconut Oil – Why Is It So Wonderful?“, I discuss the potential health benefits of coconut oil and why I feel that it should be a regular source of fat in your diet. I am not a doctor, nor do I intend for the information I provide on this website to be used as medical advice. I am simply sharing information that I have discovered, whether it be from personal experience, testimony of friends and family, or research from some of the leaders in coconut oil research.

Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil
Like I said above, I have been using coconut oil for years. I have tried a multitude of brands and the one I keep coming back to is Tropical Traditions’ Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil. I find the quality of this oil to be superior to other brands, plus, their prices are some of the most affordable I can find, even with the special care with their processing. Their prices are even better if you keep an eye on their sales and stock up when they’re running a special. The oil is pure and unrefined and has a very mild coconut flavor. Some might notice the coconut flavor if they cook with it, but if you continue to use it, you’ll get so used to it that you’ll never even notice. I use it in pretty much everything I cook and I never notice a coconutty taste.
Tropical Traditions was nice enough to provide me with a sample of their Gold Label Standard Virgin Coconut Oil, and like all of their other products, it hasn’t disappointed me. This is the first time I’ve received an individual quart jar of it – I usually buy it by the gallon and then portion it up myself, so this was nice to not have to go through the extra work!
