If there is one thing I have learned on my own personal health journey, it’s that there are many paths to healing and our path will never look like someone else’s.

We live in a world that is full of information. Those of us dealing with chronic illness are constantly seeking answers as to how to heal our bodies. This often leads to information overload. We can easily find millions of articles and stories about healing from x, y, and z, with just a simple Google search.

Everyone and their brother have an opinion of the best way to heal whatever condition or ailment we are suffering from. Every practitioner that you meet is going to have a different idea of what the best method is to deal with your issues. Even family and friends are going to have varying ideas of what is “right” and what is “wrong.”

And, where does this leave us?

Feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, and frustrated. Feeling like we don’t know who to believe, what path to take, or where to go. We see other people healing, but when we try the same things that worked for them, it doesn’t work for us.

You know who can help with that confusion? YOU!

What does YOUR gut say? When you review the information you’ve been presented with, what FEELS right for your specific needs? What are YOUR head and heart telling you is right?

When it comes to healing from chronic illness, no one knows your needs better than you. No one can tell you what is going to work best for you because we are ALL unique. We all have different needs. Our bodies all work a little differently. What works for one person may not work for you.

And we have to be OK with that. We have to be OK with knowing that we are our best health advocates. We have the power to choose the path that we feel most comfortable with. And that no matter how many “experts” say “this is the way to health,” they simply cannot know with certainty what works for us specifically.

Do not allow yourself to get caught up in comparing your journey with others. You can use other people’s experiences as motivation and inspiration, but don’t let yourself feel that you are not doing things the “right” way or that you must follow their path or else you won’t heal.

So, take comfort in your uniqueness. Feel strong in your body’s ability to heal with the right tools. Be OK with having to experiment along the way to see what works best.

And last of all, and most importantly, be kind, gentle, and loving towards yourself. Health is not a destination, it’s a journey. Open your heart and enjoy the ride.
