Want to learn how to decrease your risk of diabetes in just a few weeks? This article is for you!

Most people alive today are having health effects that have come from a life long imbalance of something we all take for granted. What exactly is it?

Blood sugar.

What does that mean exactly?

And why should you care, especially if you are not knowingly a diabetic.

I’ll tell you…….our blood sugar is one of the two most tightly regulated systems in our body. When it is not in balance, over time it can wreak havoc on one’s health in numerous ways. Over the long term, it can lead to health issues that are not easy to recover from.

What are the benefits of learning to keep your blood sugar stable on a daily basis for the rest of your life?

Balanced blood sugar will help to manage one’s overall mood. Reduce anxiety, stress, confusion, brain fog, and irritability.

Good blood sugar balance is key to overall optimum vitality, every aspect of our health is at risk when we don’t maintain it.

How does one learn to manage their blood sugar?

It’s definitely tough in this day and age but it can be done. It’s something I have to work on with every single client and something I focus on heavily in all my programs.

One key way to see if your body is currently set up to have the ability for healthy blood sugar regulation is through a hair tissue mineral analysis test.

In this video, Jessica discusses some of her experiences with HTMA and she is also going to be doing more videos as she gets further into her journey. Also, don’t forget to check out her HTMA blog posts:

One of the most important ratios seen from a hair analysis is the calcium-to-magnesium ratio, also known as the blood-sugar ratio.

Calcium is required for the release of insulin from the pancreas and magnesium inhibits insulin secretion. Also, magnesium is necessary to keep calcium in solution.

There are several trends seen via hair analysis that are associated with the calcium-to-magnesium ratio.

When this ratio is high, it indicates severe sugar/glucose sensitivity or imbalanced glucose metabolism when moderately elevated.

When this ratio is low, the calcium/magnesium ratio can tell us the same thing is happening.

Hair analysis can also quickly evaluate a person’s sugar handling ability and tendency for hypoglycemia (though it is not diagnostic) through these 5 trends identified on a test (according to Dr. Eck):

  • A very imbalanced oxidation rate
  • A sodium/potassium ratio less than about 2 to 2.5
  • A calcium/magnesium ratio above 9.5- 10 or less than 4
  • Certain trace mineral imbalances (chromium/manganese/zinc)
  • Elevated toxic metals, especially lead and cadmium (also iron above 5 and copper above 3.5)

It is good to understand the signs and symptoms to help identify whether you have blood sugar imbalances.

Most everyone today does and regardless, it is imperative to manage through proper diet or long-term affects will kick in and won’t be pretty.

Diet is not enough to completely prevent or resolve any kind of blood sugar imbalance, whether hypoglycemic, insulin resistant, or diabetic. Supplementation and lifestyle is also a necessary component to correcting these issues.

Below are some signs of hypoglycemia. If you experience any of these on a regular basis it will be critical to get them in check. Hypoglycemia is far more common than anyone realizes, and it’s a stepping stone to diabetes. In fact, all diabetics are also hypoglycemic.

You can decrease your risk of diabetes in just a few weeks by simply adjusting your diet to help force the blood sugar to stabilize.

Dietary Tips for Managing Blood Sugar

It can take a minimum of 2 weeks to reset your blood sugar handling, though it can vary for everyone (especially if you are on any kind of medication).

Anyone with any kind of insulin resistance such as;  hypoglycemia, pre-diabetes, or diabetes will need to adopt a blood sugar safe diet for life.

It is important to eat every 2-3 hours of the day to keep your blood sugar from dipping down too low. Once you get yourself straightened out you won’t have to eat this frequently.

If you find you wake up at night at all, you need to have a snack before bed. Make sure it contains protein/fat/carbohydrate. Also, if you wake up in the middle of the night and can’t get back to sleep, have a snack.

Try to eat something raw and fermented at every meal. This is particularly helpful if you get a wide array of colors of produce.

You want to nourish your body with nutrients (vitamins, minerals, bioflavonoids, and antioxidants) to replace what you need from having been a sugar burner for so long. Sugar depletes so many vital nutrients that add to the cravings. When you get needed nutrients into the body, it helps take away the cravings for more sugar.

Make sure to eat loads and loads of veggies, ideally 6-9 cups of various types per day.

Eat frequently, don’t skip those snacks every day. Eat within one hour of waking even if you don’t feel hungry.

Try not to let your daily carbohydrate intake go too low. Aim to stay at a minimum of 50-70 grams of carbohydrates per day (that is usually tolerated in fast oxidizers), slower oxidizers may do better with more carbs with the majority being lower glycemic.

The object of this way of eating is to retrain your body to run with normal blood sugar balance, to use fats/proteins as fuel over glucose, and learn what balance of foods make you feel best.

Supporting Your Blood Sugar Balance Through Herbs

When it comes to supporting blood sugar balance in the body (as well as your thyroid and adrenals since they are all part of the endocrine system), caffeine may not be your best friend. While those with sluggish adrenal glands and a slow thyroid tend to feel run down and in need of a regular pick-me-up (like coffee and other caffeinated beverages), in the long run, caffeine can do more harm than good while you are healing. I go into the “whys” around caffeine and your blood sugar balance in this detailed post here. In addition to the caffeine, there are other constituents, molds, and mycotoxins that can show up in coffee that some people find they react to.

When I was diagnosed with autoimmune disease and adrenal fatigue, one of the first things that had to go was coffee. To be honest, I never drank coffee because of the caffeine. I drank coffee for the taste and aroma, as well as the emotional experience I felt to my morning cup of joe. For me, it was a ritual that I looked forward to every day (and sometimes multiple times a day). Whether I was brewing it at home or going to my local coffee shops, the experience was one that I clung to tightly.

But, when I was faced with new health struggles, I knew I had to do whatever I could to support my body and give it the tools it needed to heal. Giving up coffee and caffeine was one step in this direction.

And it sucked.

I turned to the coffee substitutes on the market in a desperate attempt to recreate the ritual I had grown so fond of, but nothing ever tasted the way I wanted it to. Nothing ever gave me that same experience that my cup of “real” coffee did. I knew there had to be something better, but I simply could not find it on my health food store’s shelves.

Necessity is the mother of invention so that is why I created my own coffee substitutes. They were made with organic, sustainably harvested herbs with zero grains, zero gluten, and zero caffeine. Just herbs. Herbs that not only tasted delicious but supported my body’s function, like liver detox, bile production, digestion, etc. In my mind, if I can get something to not only taste amazing but do amazing things for my body, then it’s a no brainer!

I sold these pre-made blends on Etsy for awhile and the demand was more than I could keep up with. People literally LOVED these blends and were stunned at how much like coffee they actually tasted. Customers who had been dealing with a variety of chronic illnesses had given up coffee to heal their bodies, but like me were deeply missing their morning cup of joe ritual.

After careful consideration and work with some highly experienced advisors, I decided to stop selling the pre-made blends and instead share my proprietary recipes in the form of an eBook. That way I could arm people with the knowledge and recipes they needed to make their own caffeine-free, gluten-free, grain-free blends in the comfort of their own home.

That is why I created the best-selling DIY Herbal Coffees eBook: A Complete Guide To Making Delicious Herbal Coffees to Support Healing & Stress Relief. Now in its second edition, this ebook features all of my proprietary herbal blend recipes to you can craft a homemade herbal cup of “coffee” at home.

In addition, you get a ton of researched information about coffee’s impact on the health of those dealing with issues like adrenal fatigue, blood sugar dysregulation, autoimmune disease, thyroid disease, and any other chronic illness.

Lastly, you get access to your own personal coffee shop. I show you how to recreate your favorite coffee shop drinks and pastries with wholesome, nourishing real food ingredients. No junk here.

This book truly is a comprehensive guide to supporting your health, reducing your stress, and bringing a little something special back into your healing journey. You can learn more and download your own copy of this revolutionary wellness guide here, or simply click on the image below.
