This. Book. Rocks.

Seriously. From the second I got it in the mail (thanks George and Juli for sending me a copy to review), I was in love.

George Bryant is the author of the wildly popular site, Civilized Caveman Cooking. Juli Bauer is the author of the also wildly popular site, PaleOMG. Juli is a fellow Denver-ite, which makes her even cooler! Love me some Colorado foodies! 🙂

George and Juli are two of the bloggers that I stumbled upon when I dove into the blogging world many years go and I have followed them ever since. Their sites are always packed with great recipes and fun reads. They make food gorgeous (through their photos) and fun (through their stories), so it’s no wonder why people gravitate towards them.

Their new book, The Paleo Kitchen, is fantastic. It was just released and is already a huge hit.

And I’m not just saying that.

Not only are there a ton of delicious NEW recipes, but the photos are mouthwatering and make you want to make everything in the book ASAP.

But, what really draws you in (or at least what drew me in) is the way the book is laid out and the fun, whimsical design. This is not just a cookbook — it’s an everything-you-need-to-get-started-eating-paleo book.

From stocking your pantry to eating out on paleo, George and Juli have every aspect covered. And, the design is fun and whimsical, so you’re going to enjoy reading it. Whoever was in charge of the actual book design gets two thumbs up from me.

George and Juli have also thrown in encouraging tips and tricks throughout the book to keep you motivated. Changing your style of eating, especially if you’re coming from the Standard American Diet (SAD), is not easy. It can be overwhelming and frustrating, but this is a great place to get started. Plus, not only do you have the book and all of the information it offers, you also have George and Juli’s websites for even more info and recipe ideas.

The very first thing I do when I get a new cookbook is grab a stack of sticky notes or those little sticky arrows, head to the recliner, and flip through the recipes, placing a note on each recipe I want to try right away. Here are the ones that I immediately placed sticky notes on:

  • Fluffy Blueberry Pancakes
  • Creamy Pesto Chicken Salad
  • Cranberry Chicken Salad
  • Marinated Steak & Pineapple Kabobs
  • Honey Ginger Wings
  • Spaghetti Squash Chicken Fritters
  • Bacon and Pecan Cabbage
  • Honey Dijon & Rosemary Grilled Sweet Potatoes
  • Honey Pistachio Ice Cream (hubby will ADORE this)
  • Avocado Mousse

This week, I made the Cranberry Chicken Salad and ate it on a big bed of baby greens. YUMMO! This made an excellent dinner that was super fast to whip up. The only thing the recipe didn’t specify was if you were supposed to use dried cranberries or fresh cranberries. I had both on hand, but decided to use dried. I didn’t have pecans, so I subbed walnuts.

I’m keeping this recipe in the rotation for sure. You could customize it with all sorts of different fruits and veggies too. I made a double batch so that I’d have quick meals for a few days. I’ll be making another batch this week. It was that good.

And, for a TOTAL splurge, I made their fluffy blueberry pancakes that are featured on the cover of the book. Granted, my photo doesn’t do them justice, but let me just say.

Best. Pancakes. Ever.

Next up? The Honey Ginger Wings. These look SO good. I love wings and can pretty much out-eat anyone when it comes to eating a plateful. I’ll be whipping up a batch of those this week!

All in all, I was super impressed with this cookbook. I am a bit of a cookbook addict and this one really stood out to me, just from the way it was laid out and designed. I will definitely be recommending it to friends and family who are interested in getting started with paleo.

I hope you’ll pick up a copy of The Paleo Kitchen. It has quickly become one of my favorite cookbooks. You can find it on Amazon here.

I also hope you’ll stop by and say “Hi!” to George and Juli. Here’s their info:

Again, George and Juli, thank you for sending me a copy of the book to review! I look forward to continuing to follow your adventures!
