Spring is here and soon the farmers markets will be opening (at least here in Denver). Some of you are already shopping at your local farmers markets … maybe you’re one of the lucky few who have access to farmers markets year round!
I love this video from Gaiam on the importance of eating seasonal, organic, farm fresh food. I love supporting Denver’s eat local movement from getting fresh produce at the weekly farmers market I help run, to buying organic jams, jellies, honey, eggs, bread, etc. It’s a great way to improve your health AND make new friends! There are so many other ways to support your eat local movement, from visiting restaurants that feature local, sustainable ingredients, to helping in a community garden. Plus, in Denver at least, there are services like Corner Store by Fooducopia, where you can actually shop for your local food online and get it delivered to you! How cool is that!?
Do you eat local? What are your favorite foods to source locally?

The recent complete cave-in on the issue of GMO Alfalfa regulation – basically giving Monsanto and Forge complete freedom in the marketplace, is a serious blow to natural foods and American freedom to choose organic foods over so-called “frankenfoods.” Vilsack’s previous close ties to Monsanto may well be the reason of this regrettable decision to release GMO Alfalfa without regulation anywhere inside the USA.
