Your Organic Eggs Are Not What They Seem

There is a lot of information coming to light about the quality of organic eggs and the methods used to raise the chickens. The more research I do, the more I see that organic eggs really aren’t any better than commercial eggs. Unfortunately, what has happened is the organic market is dominated by a couple main players, who are bending and stretching the rules, and all the little guys, who are adhering to the rules and treating their animals humanely, are getting shoved out. Organic is big business with 80% of the market being dominated by the large corporate egg companies. It’s sad because they are now going against all of the principles that organic farming stands for – humane treatment of animals, sustainability, etc.

I’d encourage you to watch the entire video and read the Organic Egg Report. The video is short and will definitely open your eyes. I’d also encourage you to buy your eggs from a farmers market or your local farmer. “Maintaining the integrity of the organic label” is of utmost importance.

Over the next couple weeks, I am planning a series of posts with information on where Coloradoans can find products like fresh eggs, chicken, grass-fed beef, etc. Please let me know if you think this would help you on your journey to eat more real food. If you have any questions or ideas, please feel free to let me know! I’ve gotten a couple requests for information like this and I am happy to assist!

Lots of great info! I’m in rural South Carolina and I’m very fortunate to be able to buy my free-range, pastured eggs right off the farm! Big beautiful brown eggs! And way cheaper than organic store-bought eggs.

YUM! There is nothing better than fresh, pastured eggs. They aren’t even in the same ballpark as supermarket eggs! I refuse to buy supermarket eggs anymore. Especially since you crack one open and the yolk is so very pale, it’s almost unappetizing!!
